Hello Autumn

Did you know this is what caused the change of the seasons?  If you did not know this, why did you think we experienced the season changes??  I would love to see all of your thoughts on why this happens! Think about what we talked about in science on Wednesday

  3. That is sweet i never new that on an eqiunox the earth was straight up and down. i thought the earth is always tilted on its axes. however i did know that on eqiunox's we do have almost the same amount of daylight as nighttime. and 3 months of darkness in alaska i would never want to live in dark for that long it would just be scary.

  4. I did not know that. Im going to miss summer with the swimming and fishing. Bus fall is good to with the color of the leaves. But it might not be so bad.

  5. The seasons change because the orbit of the sun we keepn in repeating the same process. Also the Earths axis and its spinning helps us.

  6. This summer was awsome but i am ready for the cool colors of fall to come out.

  7. I agree with abby now I am sad because summer is over.

  9. I agree with cade when we make a revolution around the sun during that time is when our seasons change, and the same thing with the tempetures becuase in the winter the northern hemisphere is tilted away from the sun, but in the summer the southern hemisphere is tilted away from the sun.

  10. yes i did know that that. that would suck big time and i like the fall it fun and i like halloween but i dont like it getting cold i think the change of seasons are because of the tilt of the earth and that we move around the sun and eventually we get so close and so far away buhbye

  11. wow I would hate to be in the dark for three months it would be so wierd and scary. But I love fall cool colors and leaf piles yay

  12. THe earth orbits sun and that cause the equinox the equinox happens only 2 times the spring and the fall.Solstes happens only 2 times as well one in the summer and one in the winter.The earth will stand up on its axis and the earth will get the same amount of sunlight 12 hours :}

    ReplyDelete
  13. The seasons change because of the earths revolution

    ReplyDelete
  14. I dont like that summer is over because i hate colder weather. Even though it will be better for cross-country i still wish it wouldnt get so cold out.

    ReplyDelete
  15. i agree with anthony i think that the earths axis does help the change the seasons and sory bout that typo in my origanl post 3 thats

  16. I didn't know that the earth was straight up and down on the eqiunox. I always thought that earth was tilted at an angle 23 point something. I knew that the eqiunox gave the same amount of night and day. I am going to miss swimming and camping.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I didn't know the equnax was when the earth was straight and not on it's axis. I thought we experimented seasons depending on how close we were to the sun.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Yes i do agree with you ABBY BUELTERMAN but i think you could have add more details about the equiux and not about the colors you did not tell me about the solstis aswell.

  20. I knew that that was why the seasons change, but I did not know that the earth is straight for that day... I thought the earth was always tilted? Although I am sad that summer has ended, now we can start fall and go into winter, and HALLOWEEN!! I have really liked science so far and I enjoy learning about all of this.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I never new that when we had an equinox the earth was straight up and down, I always thought the earth was always tilted on its axes, since the tilt causes the seasons. However I did know that when we have an equinox we had almost the same amount of daylight as nighttime.(12 hours of day and 12 hours of night)Lastley its crazy having 3 months of darkness in alaska since its the modst northern part of the USA! I dont think i'd like being in the dark for 3 days.

    ReplyDelete
  22. it is kindove cool that in alaska the sun sets really early. when their in school the sun will be setting. but in fall it is very pretty. im sad summer is over.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I think the cause of the seasons changing is because of the orbit of the Earth. I think that becuase every time we orbit we move farther or closer to the sun,it goes back and fourth. This procees will always repeat.I also knew that if you live closer to the equator you will have almost 12 hours of daylight and 12 hours of darkness and will have warmer weather than the people who live farther away from the equator.Thats my idea.

    ReplyDelete
  24. that is cool i did not know that on the eqiunox the tilt is striaght up in down.ithought that it was always a tilt. i would not want to live in alaska because i would not want to be 3 months of darkness.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I always thought the earth was tilted on its axes. I never knew the earth was straight up and down for the equinox. I think its really neat that we have exactly 12hours of daylight and 12 hours of night time. If I lived in alaska and had 3 months of darkness I would probably go nuts; I have to have light.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I'm with Alex,I wish summer wasn't over because I hate the cold weather and standing at the bus stop in the mornings.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I never knew that either Alexandra. I thought the earth was always tilted, but really its straight up that way the whole earth is able to receive about 12 hours of daylight and 12 hours of night.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I thought that the earth was always tilted but on an equinox the Earths axis is straight. In Barrow Alaska the northern most point in the United States the sun sets on 1:45pm November 18th and doesnt rise again untill 1:01pm January 3rd. But if you live near the equator you will always have about 12 hours of sunlight.

  29. brendan, i didnt know that the earth ever stood stright either... i wonder whats making the earth and other planets rotate and spin when there is no wind in outter space

    ReplyDelete
  30. to Syney Kilgore: I agree with you on how crazy it is for peopl who live in Alaska has to deal with about 3 months of darkness and that the earth was straight up and down on the equinox.I think that I would not be able to deal with the darkness for 3 months.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I agree with you megan i would not like being in the dark all the time. It's crazy i couldn't imagine having darkness that long where we live.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I am also wonder how the earth becomes straight up on its axes what causes this to happen?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Yes, I knew that the tilt is what caused the seasons to change from summer to fall. We experienced the season changes because when the earth is standing stright up on its axis, we get exactly 12 hours of night and 12 hours of day, then the northern hemisphere is titled away from the sun until the spring equinox. I love the fall time, because thats when my birthday is and its not to cold and its not to hot.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Rachel,
I agree I think the causing of the changes of the seasons is because the orbit of the earth.

    Alexandra,
I thoght the earth was always tilted too. I'm also sad summer is over but I can't wait until halloween!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Sydney, I am wondering the same thing, how does the earth get straight on its axis? Does it happen in the spring too?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Brendan im going to miss summer too. like swimming and taking trips to norris lake.
    Adam Lyons

    ReplyDelete
  37. SYdney, I know! I would hate being in total darkness for 3 months!! Sometimes hate when it gets dark for nighttime, much less 3 months... and Megan what do you think they do in all those days of darkness, because playing sorry or monopoly would get pretty old after a week!:)

    ReplyDelete
  38. YAHANZ VELASQUEZ i knew that whe the earth is tilted a way towards the sun we have equal hours but did not know that on the equater was always equal
    YAHANZ VELASQUEZ

    ReplyDelete
  39. Megan I agree, how can they go all that time in darkness! It's insane! I would deffinetly never last for 3 months.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Madison, it does happen in spring too, on the day that spring officially starts. And does anyone know how the earth gets straight on it's axis?? I thought we were told that it was always on it's axis!!

    ReplyDelete
  41. i think summer comes to an end because the northern hemisphere tilts away from the sun but i like it because its not too hot, not too cold in the fall

    ReplyDelete
  42. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Alexandra, I agree, what could they do! There would be nothing to do at all, exept sleep! But they probably can't sleep for 3 months!

    ReplyDelete
  44. I didn't know that! I wish Summer was a bit longer or even ohio was around the equiator so we would barely notice seasonal changes...

    ReplyDelete
  45. Ethan, I think you are talking about ANTARTICA who has 3 months of darkness not ALASKA, its on the opposite hemisphere from ANTARCTICA.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I agree with Kaleb i want the fall colors to come even if it means bringing colder weather.

    ReplyDelete
  47. i already knew that's what caused the seasons to change. i think it's very interesting that that's what makes the seasons change during the year.

    ReplyDelete
  48. The Autumnal equanox is the official end of summer. The equanox is when the earth stands straight up on its axis. For the next 6 months the northern hemisphere will lean away from the sun. Barrow Alaska is the most northern part of the united states. the sun will set there at 1:45 pm November 18th and won'trise until 1:01pm January 23rd. Equador get about 12 hours of sunlight a day. the equator is 24,860 miles long.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I think the seasons change because earth spins on its axis.Summer was a great break from school but fall gets cold and dangerous. It also gets colder and more dangerous in winter and it is dangerous for me to be outside in any season because when the bus picks me up at 6AM there are no street lights and I live on a very busy street. And if i go and slip on ice when i have to get on the bus the bus driver might not see me and she might drive over top of me.

    ReplyDelete
  50. WOW i never knew that on the Equinox that the earth was striagth up and down. I knew that you had 12 hrs of day and night though. yes i knew that the orbit of the earth changed the seasons. I didnt know that in alaska that the sun set on 1:45pm nov 18th and wont come up until 1:01pm Janury 23rd.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I never new we had equinox up and down. I thought it always was tilted on its axis. I think the seasons change because the orbit of the earth. But sometimes i wish the sasons didnt change because im really going to miss summer.

    Kailey Carter

    ReplyDelete
  52. Adam i think every thing you said is true and i thought the earth was always tilted. i was reading your post and saw you put 1:01 pm on january 3rd but really its 1:01 january 23rd. I think have just typed it wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I knew that this was what caused season change. The Earth's orbit makes the different seasons. When the Earth orbits the Sun, it doesn't stay in the same distance. As we learned on the interactive, the distance from the sun changes throughout the months. When the Earth is close to the Sun, the United States has colder temperature. For example, in January, it is the coldest month of the year in Chicago-closest to where we live-but it is also the month we are closest to the sun. But since the axis is tilted, the weather and seasons aren't the same for everywhere on the Earth.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I totally agree with abby why does summer have to end we should just have summer all the time!!!!! also i like fall though the nice weather and all the pretty leaves. plus halloween!!!!

    Kelly Rogers

    ReplyDelete
  55. I agree with Ben. I had absolutely no idea that the Earth could actually be straight up and down. I thought that the Earth was tilted on it's axis all the time. I don't exactly understand how the this happens though. I'm really confused about how the Earth can be at a point in time when it's not tilted on it's axis. I dont get it.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I knew that the orbit caused the seasons ever since 5th grade. I didnt know that the earth went straight up and down on the autumn equnoix.

    ReplyDelete
  57. the seasons change because of the earth rotates on its axis and were the sunlight hits the earth. also i could not live in alaska brrrr 3 months of cold darkness.

    Kelly Rogers

    ReplyDelete
  58. I never knew that the earth as strait up and down i thought it was at a 10 degree angle on the eqiunox. I do how ever now what causes these change the tilt of the earth. 12 hours of sun light and 12 hours of night.

    David Meiners

    ReplyDelete
  59. I agree with Ben i never new til now that the earth was straight up and down on the autumn equoinox.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I did not know that this is why the seasons changed. I never really knew why the seasons changed I guess I never really questioned it I just looked at a calender and remembered what the first day of the season was.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Brendan i thought prity much the same of what you thought to,but I thought 10 degree and you thought 23 degrees just 13 Degrees off each other. Im also going to miss swimming.

  63. I didn't know that, and I will miss summer really bad, Because of all the swimming and nice weather.I'm so happy that it is fall now because of the colors and seeing them all on the ground

    ReplyDelete
  64. i agree with caleb yes summer was awesome but now its time for fall we cant do anything about it

    hunter steimle

    ReplyDelete
  65. Yes I did know that this was what caused the change of the seasons. I also think that when the
Earth orbits around the sun, the direction in which the axis tilts causes the Earth to move farther and closer to the sun.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Wow, didn't know that Equinox, meant "equal times" in Latin. Pretty cool. The earth orbits around the sun, while the moon orbits around the earth, so when the seasons change, we would be on the side with the moon on it because of the winter sulstice, and then the opposite with the summer sulstice, we are towards the sun, so we get more sun than usual.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I agree with Abbey Buelterman because I'm really sad that summer is over even though I love fall. I love all of the pretty colors of the leaves and I like cold weater just as much maybe even more than hot weather. I also love Halween. I love the candy and all of the cool costumes.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I dont want summer to be over either abby but i do like the leaves also. There really color
    ful :)

    ReplyDelete
  69. I knew that the Earth was tilted, but i recently found that the Earth's orbit changes the seasons. I mean I kinda knew but not fully understood. I'm already missing the warm weather too Abby B! I love the fall and winter because of snow and leaves. I can't wait for Halloween but still wishing it was summer still.

    ReplyDelete
  70. i did not know that this changed the season. we experience these changes because the orbit of the earth.when the eath orbits the sun we move closer to the sun and father away.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I had absolutely no idea that the earth's axis was vertical on the equinox. I did know that equador was on the equator (the name says it all!) and that the day-length there is almost always the same.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I didn't know that, but I am sooo glad summer is over. Because, the 95 degree weather is finally over and the 50-60 degree weather is in. Next, season is WINTER, yaaaayyyy!!!!!! Me and my mom both absolutely love WINTER. Anyway, I like Fall and Winter, but not Summer, I don't know about Spring it's kind of a mix of Fall and Summer, but a little warmer and sometimes cooler!!!

    ReplyDelete
  73. i agree with kaleb quinlan i am sad that summer is over but i love to see the leaves change on the trees.

    ReplyDelete
  74. wow summer is over already! that when by so fast but i do like autumn the leaves look so cool! and why is almost everything about the world is latin why am i not surprised that equinox is latin!

    -Dylan Humbert

    ReplyDelete
  75. I agree with Hannah Granger, I do like the pretty, and colorful trees, but Summer was okay. Anyway, I guess I did know a little bit about the Earth tilting and the Summer and Winter Solstes!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  76. Who's ready, fall is here and it's all because the earth is standing straight up instead of tilting at an angle. When this happens it's called an equinox in this case a fall equinox. This means that the northen hemisphere will become colder for six monthes.
    Ryan Bussard

    ReplyDelete
  77. thats entresting cade i always thought that how the earth works is very intresting i think that it would be cool to go out in space and look down at the earth.

    -Dylan Humbert

  78. Like Ryan said lets get ready for fall!I love fall becaus eof all the colors on the trees and when they fall its really coolio to watch them putb beutiful colors on the ground.

  79. the day of the equinox the earth gets the same amount of sun as of darkness.in the winter the earth leans away from the sun and in the summer its closer.

    ReplyDelete
  80. I never knew that the equinox is straight up and down, I always thought that the earth was on its axis. I would hate 3 months of darkness, because i would be tired the whole day cause its dark out.

    ReplyDelete
  81. I didn't that on the autosanal equonox the earths axis is straight up. Also I didn't know on November 18 Alaska goes in complete darkness until January 23, equonox is lation for equal night, and it is also when their is 12 hours of light and 12 hours or night.
    Alex Richmond

    ReplyDelete
  82. Commeting on alex reichling. I am also sad that summer is over. I hate cold weather to. I wish that the sun could be closer to earth, so it could be warm all of the time

    ReplyDelete
  83. I agree with Alex. I like the fall colors. The cold weather I don't really mind. And I didn't know that the earth tilted during the equinox. I Knew that the earth tilted away from the sun, but I didn't know it went up-right.

    ReplyDelete
  84. I did know that was how it worked, but I am sad that the summer is over. I wish that I lived at the equator.

    ReplyDelete
  85. no I always thought that THe distance that the sun if from the Earth is what cause the season cahnge. I never knew that.

    ReplyDelete
  86. I agree with you Kyle Gorman because you wouldn't be able to do alot if there was only darknss for 3 days
    Ryan Bussard

    ReplyDelete
  87. I agree with you on that Ethan, about 3 months of total darkness it would be pretty freaky. I didn't know anything about the equwinoxes or sulsteses. So this is somthing i'm very interested in.
    Alex Richmond

    ReplyDelete
  88. Comenting on Kylie H:

I also knew that the earth was tilted ever since I was in 3rd grade, but I just recently knew that the distance of the sun has nothing to do with the season change.

    ReplyDelete
  89. the seasons change because of the orbits of the earth, and i thought that earth was tilted on its axis! but i did know that the seasons change beacaue of the equinox.... by summer!

  91. I think it is interesting that every place has about the same amount of daylight hours. I would hate to live in Alaska at this time because I think it would be very depressing with no light and I wouldn't like to live around the Equator because I like change but I don't want total darkness. I think it is very interesting how the solar system works. Winter is my favorite season, but I wish we had more light. I'm not really sad about seasons changing.

    ReplyDelete
  92. @ Elizabeth Spaulding:
I knew that this is what caused changes but I think that it's interesting about what you said about the earth on it's axis. I wonder how the axis make that much of a difference? what would life be without it?

    ReplyDelete
  93. Yes, I knew this is what caused the seasons. I think that things mave have been different a few thousand years ago. For example, I think possibly that where we are in 1274 B.C, summer may have started in May.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Sara, I thought too that seasons were determined by the distance from the Sun, but I learned in 5th grade that the Earth turnrd on its axis.

    ReplyDelete
  95. I didn't know that we were standing straight up on the fall and spring equinox. I did know we did change the tilt from side to side (the seasons) but i never knew it went straight up on the season changes to fall and to spring! I think that is really cool.

    ReplyDelete
  96. im pretty sad that summer is over but i do like fall because i like the weather.i also like it cause colors same as abby.NATHAN STENGER

    ReplyDelete
  97. I knew that the seasons changed by the axis. Also that the light gets brighter the close the tilt to the sun. The farther away less light and colder weather.

    ReplyDelete
  98. the earth is on the equinox so 12 hours of day and 12 hours of night like this morning it was still dark at 6:45am

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  104. the chang of the seasons is because of earths axis when we have summer south america has winter

    ReplyDelete
  105. I knew that this is what caused the seasons because in cass we where talking about how when the earth istilted away from the earth it is winter and fall and when it is falland winter and when we face the earth is facing the sun it is summer and spring.also when it is summer in the northern hamispher it is winter in the southern hemisphere and viceversa. That is how i know how the seasons change.

    ReplyDelete
  106. I think it is so cool how the trees and all the plants know when it is fall, summer, winter or spring and know when to grow or change the leaves. I love summer, but fall would have to be my favorite season because it is not to hot or cold to go outside. Is there any effects that come from the equanox?

  112. I agree with anthoney. I meen how man ey time have we repeated the cycle of winter, spring, summer, fall?

    ReplyDelete
  113. I didn't know the Equinox brought the change of the seasons. I knew that in Autumn the weather got colder and the color of the leaves changed. I knew in Winter the weather got really cold and the trees lose their leaves. I knew in the Spring the weather gets warmer and the trees start getting leaves and the flowers bloom. I knew that in the Summer the weather got hot and dry. But I didn't know what caused these changes. The video was very informative and told me about the Equinox. I'm glad I don't live in Alaska or any other place really far North because I wouldn't want it to stay dark and cold for more than a few hours.

    ReplyDelete
  114. No, I didnt know this is what causes seasons to change. I did know that the earth was tilted but i didnt know no on september 22 was the day the earth stood straight up. I am not quite getting on which way the earth tilts when its winter/fall and which way it tilts when its summer/spring.

I am gonna miss summer cause there is no more swimming and hott weather. but i am happy that fall is here cause the pretty colors of leaves falling from the trees!

I wonder what summer and fall would be like together with the pretty colors on the tress and the nice weather and the swimming! :)

  118. I have always heard the word eqiunox, but I have never known what it actually meant. I think thats very fascinating that th eqiunox is the day summer has officially ended and fall actually starts. I did know that the orbit around the earth causes seasons and it also depends on the tilt of the sun and how much sunlight we're actually getting. I also find it fascinating that the entire world gets the same amount of daylight hours on this time. I do have to say that it would truly stink to be in total darkness + it is too cold there for me.

    - Michael Van Schoik

    ReplyDelete
  119. I didn't actually know that an eqiunox also made seasonal changes, because i never really knew what that meant. I did know though that the orbit of the earth around the sun made seasonol changes. It would stink to be in total darkness in Alaska. I Also agree with Jenna that I would want to be in ecuador not in Alaska. I think it is amazing that the earth is straight on the eqiunox, I also wonder the same thing as Sydney, how does that actually happen?
I really do want to learn more about this.

Now I know that it is called the Equinox which is a latin word for equal night. I also know that it happens on the 21st. There has to be some sign that says goodbye summer, hello winter

  122. I agree with Anthony...why did summer have to end? I like the weather in the fall, it is very comfortable. When I was 6, I thought seasons changed because the Earth moved over to pluto when it was winter time. In the summertime, we went close to mercury. Now that I'm older, I realize that this is not right and that seasons change because of how we rotate around the sun. When we are in some places the rays are tight and it makes it warm and when the rays are spread apart then the Earth is cooler.

  123. I agree with Abbey, I am sad that summer is over, but the fall does have my favorite colors: orange and brown. And I can wear jeans and hoodies and that is comfortable.

  127. @ Sydney Kilgore:
I never knew that when we had an equinox the earth was straight up and down either. That intrests me because I just thought it was always tilted, since that causes seasons. Like you thought. Being in the dark that long would freak me out!!!!!!!

  128. Apparently this article has given some the misconception that the earth is not tilted at the equinox. The earth is always tilted on its axis at 23.5. The earth's position in space at the equinox is tilted neither toward nor away from the sun.

  129. Thanks for saying that Mrs.Martz but I diden't watch the vidio first I read the artical. I knew from the start it was wrong because how would the hours change if we did not tilt.

  130. I did not know this caused the seasons to change. I thought the earth's orbit did. I would of never guessed we are closest to the sun in winter and furthest in summer. The universe has a odd way of working.

  131. The earth is not strait on it's axis Sydney. It is strait on it's axis compared to the sun, but it is still tilted.

  132. @ Madison!!!! I know. Is it possible for people to hibernate???

  133. Ok... I understand now..... the earth is not straight up and down on it's axis, it is just in a position in comparison to the sun whereit seems straight. BUT THE EARTH IS ALWAYS ON ITS 23.5 ANGLE! Is this right?

  134. I agree with Evan, that would suck if we had 3 months of night.(freaky)

  137. The Earth as it rotates around the sun causes seasonal changes. A good example to show this is that in the winter the Earth is actually closer to the sun than in summer. I found this surprising. The rays of the sun are what changes the temperature. When the suns rays are more direct the hotter it gets. For example, when it is winter in the U.S., the Earth's axis is facing away from the sun which makes the bottom of the Earth get more direct rays. This means when it is winter here, it is summer in Australia.

  138. Alexandra, you are correct on the fact that the Earth does have a tilt and there are plenty of facts to back it up like...
-How would we have season changes without the tilt as the Earth rotates.
-Without tilt the temperature would be the same around the world.
-Are time schedule would not change and there would always be 12 hours of day light and darkness.

  139. Jenn Davis, the video was very misleading. The Earth is always tilted, it never stands straight up because if it ever did that the whole world would have the same temperature. The video made it look like the Earth was standing straight up but really it was saying the axis was facing right towards the sun on the equinox.

  140. I agree with Abbey Bulterman. I'm surprised that the weather has changed so fast. What I love about Autumn is that I get to go to science and learn more how about the seasons change from time to time and what causes them too. Learning about this is really important. Goodbye Summer. :)

  141. Jenn Davius, the video was very misleading. The Earth is always tilted, it never stands straight up because if it ever did that the whole world would have the same temperature and time. The video made it look like the Earth was standing straight up but really it was saying the axis was facing right towards the sun on the equinox. The fall equinox also is a day were there are exactly 12 hours of daylight and 12 hours of darkness.

  143. I always thought that the earth was always tilited on its axes so i was surprised to ind that during an equinox that the earth is actually straight up and down. thats very intresting.

  145. i agree with kailey carter i dont want the summer to go becuase i hate the cold weather

    ReplyDelete
  146. i always thought the reason it gets cold was that the earth was just further away from the sun, and that the southern hemisphere had the same wheather as the northern hemisphere, i didnt expect it to be this cold in the fall so now i miss summer :P

  147. commenting on David Meiners. thats cool that during an equinox we have the same amount of dayligt an nightime hours.

  149. @ Sydney: I thought the earth was tilted too? But Mrs. Martz explained that to us in science. That the earth really is always tilted and that the earth is closest to the sun in January and all that.
