i never knew that that much went into making a star from silacone to nitrogen.coolest of all i would never think that there had to be a nucelear fusion. but im not sure what that has to do with a pancake. it would be so cool to see a star made i would pay big bucks for that but of coarse i bet we couldent see it from here

PAPATHANAS,ANTHONY said...

I didnt know that was how a star was made that they where blown up because of the gravity. Also i always thought that a star would turn into a black hole after they died. For all the people that think starts are pretty alls it is a big explosin in space.

PAPATHANAS,ANTHONY said...

I didnt think that a star was made because of a nuclear fusion thats kinda weird i thought that we only6 had nuclear stuff.

kiphart,shane said...

i never know that a star had diffrent forms of becoming a star first the star draws in some gas and dust and larger partcal and after a wile it forms a star

kaleb.quinlan said...

I did not know that it takes that much to make a star i mean that is a lot of things that has to happen

i think the way a star is born is very interesting . the way they compare the way stars are born to a pankake and a ice skater is very unique. it is amazing how they know most of the ingredients and where they com in at in the prosses

kiphart,shane said...

i agree i never know that nuclear fusion had to happen to make a star kinda weird dont you think ?

Sean Laake said...

I actaully knew how they have formed and they can cause Super Nova's but what I didn't know is that the residue from the star forms planets! These stars must have needed a TON of leftovers to cause a planet. But there was something the article didn't point out, Super Novas are narrowly missing earth every time. Once a nova hits us, we all go up in a bang.

kaleb.quinlan said...

I agree with Drew what does a star have to do with a pancake

Reichling,Alex said...

I think it would be very cool to be able to see a star born or a star die because of what you would see from the images on the link. I thinkit would also be cool to see a sta die becausethe create black holes and in the future we could maybe we could put a prob into a black hole to see where they lead to.

Anonymous said...

yes tony i agree with you how most people would think it would just turn into a black hole but it dosent it just explodes

Evan Triplett said...

wow that crazy how it takes so many element to make a star and how its just a big explosion.I would love to see that happen.

Sean Laake said...

Vaive, nuclear fission happens in power plants every day from splicing Uranium Fuel Rods. Also the pancake term is just to ive you a general idea of the shape, plus it was in cook book form so it was strangely appropriate.

Royer Rachel said...

I didnt know that it could take over hundred light years to form a star. Also I didnt know that to form a star you need hydrogen, helium gas, silicon, oxygen, carbon, iron and madnesium. Also I think that it is cool that stars can be formed because of gravity.I think it would be very cool to see a star to explode.I agree with Tony that after a star dies in trns into a blackhole.

Sean Laake said...

Actually some stars CAN cause black holes, if they are RED GIANTS, Vaive, but it is mostly SUPER NOVAS

anonymous said...

i never thought of it that way, making a pancake compared to making a star hydrogen, helium, silicon, oxygen, carbon, magnesium, and iron. That is a lot of pancake ingredients. The core has to be spinning fast when the core collapses, causse i skate sometimes and i go really fast when i pull in my arms so compoaring that to somthing as big as the sun would have to be pretty fast. I think that is cool how the gas and dust keep funneling into the coe until it ghets hot and ignites a nuclear fusion.

VELASQUEZ YAHANZ i didnt know you had to first make a starter disk to make a star form when some of the disk unites in nucular fusion and makes another star. it would be very nice to see that happen, though you might get thrown into the star when the disk pulls.

Why are they comparing stars to pancakes?...and i always wonder that if stars are reborn how they are always in the same place as the night before when it wasnt a new star yet. In the post where it says "Winds and radiation from the young star then blow away much of the remaining gas and dust around it" I thought there wasnt any wind in outter space and where does the remainding gas and dust go?

i never thought of making a star as making a pancake, thats pretty weird. and they put a lot into it like hydrogen, helium, silicon, oxygen, carbon, magnesium, and iron, they even put dust in it.
thats a lot of things to put in a pancake.

Rachel, I never knew it took over 100light years to form a star. Thats alot of time, I wonder how many stars we have in our solar system?

I didnt know that it took that much time. I was surprised how many ingrediants went in to it from solids to gases. A pancake?

Kilgore, Sydney said...

Deborah.. I was also wondering why they compared the star to a pancake. I think its just saying how when the star forms it looks like a pancake. And Rachel i was wondering that too. How long does it take all the huge starts to form?

Madison Schnell said...

I never knew that stars were made of so much, first hydrogen and helium droplets, then solid particles of silicon, oxygen, carbon, magnesium and iron. It's really cool how they compared a star being formed to a pancake being made, it really helped with the understanding. It doesnt seem that long for a star to be made, because there always seems to be tons of stars in the sky. I didn't know the 'lumps' of the stars actually form planets. It's really cool! I never thought stars can relate to pancakes, people and skaters so much. I would like to study stars more after reading how interesting it is to learn how a star is born.

I never knew a star was made by mixing Hydrogen, helium gas, silicon, oxygen, carbon, magnesium and iron. And how it spins and soon ignites nuclear fushion, which forms a a star.I thought it would be a shorter processes than this. I also was surprised how the remaning gas and dust can clump together which could coagulate to form a planet. I always thought planets were formed from like big rocks floating through space impacting on one another.

Madison Schnell said...

I am wondering the same as Sydney and Rachel, does it take longer for a larger star to form? Or are all stars the same size?

Wall, Alexandra said...

I never knew that a planet was formed by all that, and I definetly would not have related it to a pancake...? And it says that a giant cloud can take over a 100 light years to form... that's a long time!!!! I have never noticed how long it takes to make a planet.... I always thought that p,anets were formed in like 10 years max by big meteors colliding. Does anybody know how long a light year is???

George McFarren said...

Stars are made up of many different ingredients. They have large amounts of heliunm gas and hydrogen. these are the most abundant elemnts in the universe. they arealso made up of iron, magnesium, barbon, oxygen, and silicon. they can last over 100 light years. after a whilethe star starts collapse. when it collapses it spins. when it spins it forms into a flat disk. When it gets very hot it ignites nuclear fusion and it becomes another star. When the dust from the other star comes together it sometimes forms a planet. We don't know how but we are curious to find out.

Madison Schnell said...

I agree with Brendan, it would be awesome and interesting to watch a star form, and form planets, then die. Even though it would take a long time for it to be born and die.

George McFarren said...

I agree with Kaleb because there are so many things that have tohappen to form a star and Ithink it's really cool that stars are made up of so many elents like iron and magnesium.

to make a star you need large dollops of hydrogen and helium gas. they were made in the big bang and they were the two biggest elements in the universe! Then you need some dust and other elements like silicon, oxygen, carbon, magnesium, andiron. all of these elements are in the heart of the star then it forms a cloud that can span over a hunderd lightyears. then the core colapses and it spins faster and faster untill its like a pancake.then the gas goes towards the core and it makes a nuclear fusion and a new star is born.

Well, I didn't know that a star was made of hydrogen, helium gas, dust, solid particles made of elements like silicon, oxygen, carbon, magnesium, and iron, which is made of the heart of the star. It all creates a giant cloud. Most of the gravity controlls the clouds shape and a lot more.

I used to think that stars started off as just a mircoscopic dot of light and that they just grew bigger and bigger. I had no clue that they actually had INGREDIENTS! Like Nitrogen and Helium Gas, Silicon, Oxygen, Carbon, Magnesium, and Iron. I think the whole process is very cool. It takes a lot of work to form a star and it's amazing that there are so many that have already formed and they're still forming.

You know when a stars life ends when it is a blue dwarf. But the prosses befor that is called the red giant stag. When its at that stage it uses all the gas it has and becomes huge fireball. When the star runs out of gas it shrinks to a dwarf star. This prosses will happen to the sun but in a couple billien years. When it does happen it will turn into a large fireball. Swallowing the 2 closet planets to the sun. It will not swollow Earth but will make it to hot for any life on Earth. When the sun shrink's back its said the planet's won't have any orbit and they would collid.

I agree Amber. it is amazing how we see small dots of white light; I think it is because we are so far away we can't see all of the details but i would love to see a star up close.

i didn't know that it took so much just to make one star. the pancake parts kind weird though dont you think? it was really cool just to hear how it forms so enteresting. i love learning about sapace and cannot wait to learn moore. i would love to see it happen i totally agree with rachel!

I never knew that it took that many elements and particals to make a star, and that stars where like pancakes...just joking but you do have to mix the little things before you can actually make the pancake or the star. What I didn't know is that there is oxygen in outer space or maybe it's just not enough to breath.

A, Owen said...

I agree with kelly, the pancake part was kinda weird but if you think about it or if you've made pancakes before it does make a little sense. I also want to learn more about space and what is really out there.

CALEB!!!!!!!! That would be soooo cool if we could make stars on earth! Although, aren't they big?? Because then there wouldn't be enough room...?

Yum Now I Want Some Pancaks:) I Never Knew That You Could Make Your Own Star. That Sounds Like Fun

Drew... I Agree I Never Knew That A Star Would Have To Do Anything With A Pancake:)

awh man now i want a pancake
i didnt know that a star was nuckear....i thought it was just a bog ball of light

but i have to ask, what is the big bang therory
?

Jordan,M,Malsbary said...

I didnt get why they used a pancake as a refrence but in some way it made sience.A star is made by a nuculer fusion i didnt know.I would love to see a star both die ane be born I think that would be so cool.

Anonymous said...

but yeah i agree with drew....
what does a pancake have to do with a star.
they are nothing like a star! :)

i ment nuclear not nuckear
sorry finger slipped

Jordan,M,Malsbary said...

I agree with drew I dont get why they used a pancake in the paragraph it doesnt make any seince

to gillan:

i think when they said pancake they ment it like it has a lot of ingredients just like a pancake does. not a pancake is in a star or made with a star its like a pancake.

i didn't know that the cloud of oxygen, carbon, silicon, iron, and magnesium, that creates a star spans for hundreds of light years i thought that it only spaned for one light year or less. i also didn't know that a star starts out looking like a pancake i thought it was always a sphere and it got bigger and bigger

I had no idea that it took hundred light years to make a star. Also that gravity forms the stars. Its cool how a star turns into a black hole when it dies. Jordan harbour

shoting stars aren't acutaly stars exploding the are comets and things burning up as they enter the earths atmosphere

well in a loooong while our sun will get even bigger and turn into a Red Giant.

I disagree with you drew I think we could see it depending on how close the star is

i knew stars lived and died and everything but what i didnt know was HOW a star is made (i wonder if martha stewart could whip up a batch). It was a good comparison, pancakes and stars, i wonder if earth happened because of a star.i think all thses comparisons helped me understand things better.Isnt it called a supernova when a star explodes? Well all this talk about pancakes has me hungry, ihop anyone?

I find it rather amazing that a star is born like humans are born.
To make a star you start with big dollops of helium and hydrogeon gas. They were formed in the big bang, then you need some dust which are made up of particles of silicon or oxygen, magnesium and iron. The mixture from this giant cloud can span to 100 lightyears. Its dense core begins to collapse. Then a little latter as it collapses it orms a thin disk. When the disk funnels most of its gas to the core when the core gets hot enough a new star is born. That entire proccess is very confusing.

@Drew, I think they were just trying to make a point, I mean pancakes does have nothing to do with starts but they do kinda start out the same way if you know what I mean, ahha.

I agree with drew, i did not know it took that much to make a star especially having to have a nucealu fusion. I find that very interesting. Also Sean I did know Red giants did make black holes but i do not know what a super nova is.

To Kailey Carter:

I also think it would be amazing to see a star form and die. Since it takes so long to form a star, how long do you think a star's life is? My guess is much more than 10 million light years.

I agree who wouldn't want to watch a star being made in the process.

to make a star first combine large dollops of hydrogen and helium gas. then mix in some small grains of "dust" -- solid particles made of elements like silicon, oxygen, carbon, magnesium, and iron, which were forged in the hearts of stars. soon the will form a star. Star are like humans they live forever. some star will explode. Every time i lokn at the star some are shining one minute then they aren't lit the next weird right

johnsholly said...

i dident know thata it took so much to make a star and stars arent like pancakes

Fairbanks,Joey said...

I agree with Kaleb Quinlan, that is alot of things to happen to make a star. I also can't belive that it takes so many years for that to happen.

anonymous said...

Now iknow hoqw to make a star hahaha i like when it says you need to make a pancake at first i thought it meant a real pancake well stars are so beatiful.

@Deborah Park: They are comparing it a pancake probably because that is the easiest thing to compare it to. Just like pancakes, stars are created by mixing stuff together. And while there may not be wind in space, there is wind on the planets. There's wind on Earth isn't there? And where does that wind come from? There are even natural forms of weather and stuff on other planets in space. Tornados, dust storms, rain, thunder storms...

johnsholly said...

i agree with kaleigh because i think it is cool how stars were made.

Buelterman,Abbey said...

Well, I didn't know that a star was made of hydrogen, helium gas, dust, solid particles made of elements like silicon, oxygen, carbon, magnesium, and iron, which is made of the heart of the star, it was so COOLIO and I just want to watch someone make a star. It all creates a Hugger cloud than you can ever imagine. Most of the gravity controls the clouds shape and lots, lots, lot's more!!!!

Kristen I agree with you that it was funny when they said we first needed a pankake to make our stars!!!

Hahahahahaha!!!! Lol!!!
