How would you feel if we had to collect and melt snow in order to conserve water?  Would you be willing to do this?  What would your main concerns be in doing this?  Do you think that we could have a water shortage in Cincinnati?  Why or why not?

I think it would be really weird to use melted snow as water. I guess i'd be willing to do this. I mean it would be better to have it than not having any water. I'd be scared that the snow would be dirty though. I don't think we would get a water shortage in Cincinnatin because in Beijing they said it was caused by global warming, drought, and all the people that live there, and in Cincinnati there isn't that many people.

Um i wouldnt like to do that but if it was for survival i would probably do it. so yeah i would be willing to do it. My main concern would probably be parisites in the snow unless we had something to purifie it then i would be kinda catious. No i dont think we could have a water shortage because 1. the rain we get helps 2. we have the cincinnati river to.

kaleb.quinlan said...

I would not like to have to collect snow for water and i would be willing to do this only for survival. My main concern would be that the water might be dirty. I do not think that we could have a water shortage because we live right by a river

PAPATHANAS,ANTHONY said...

I agree with sydney in beijing ts becuase they are having global warming and drought and here that hasnt effected us.

Kilgore, Sydney said...

Anthony i agree with you. I would be concerned on parasites in the snow. Would they be ce collecting it after it hit the ground and animals could have walked on it? I wouldn't be as worried if they puified it, though.

i would feel less free because i would ahve to worry if i had water or not. i would be willing to help for the city.my main concerns would be that the machines could stop working or i could get hurt. i do not think that cincinnati would have a water shortage because we arent in a dry area or anything. if anything somewhere like kansas or utah would have a water shortage.

Sean Laake said...

Well, if Cincinnati had to melt snow to conserve water, I would understand it but, blame it on GLOBAL WARMING?! Global warming MELTS GLACIERS, SO RISING WATER LEVELS PEOPLE!!! This makes as much sense as a camel that died of thirst. We will not have a water shortage because we live by a river that flows from the great lakes, to the canals and to the ocean with MELTING GLACIERS!! ALL SYSTEMS LEAD TO SOME WHERE. So don't go and throw some garbage down that drain, it will effect EVERYTHING!

kaleb.quinlan said...

I agree with tony because i also think that the water should be purified before you would drink it

Kilgore, Sydney said...

I do think that its because we dont have that many peole in Cincinnati like Beijing does, so we do not have a shortage. Do you think there's any other reasons we don't?

Park Deborah said...

Uhm to be honest... I would hate to have melted snow for my water. I mean it's a good idea specialy in beijing because they have alot of people but how do they get water when it doesnt snow? And it's kind of their fault because they keep letting the population grow and grow. If in the snow there was something that could be harmful to human kinds then it would kill people wouldn't it? I just wouldn't feel safe. I doubt it, we are surrounded by rivers and lakes and it most unlikly we will run out of water to use melted snow for water.

Royer Rachel said...

I would feel awkard and weird to use melted snow as water.
I guess I have to do this to survive. It would be better to have the melted snow for water than nothing at all.
My main concerns would be that the snow would be dirty and have bacteria/diseases in the snow.
I don't think we would get a water shortage in Cincinnati because in Beijing they said it was caused by global warming, drought, and all the people that live there, but in Cincinnati there isn't as many people who live here then Bejing.

Park Deborah said...

@kaleb
I agree with you. I will only drink melted snow for water in order to survive and also my main concern is that the snow might be dirty.

Sheridan,Megan said...

I would feel as little weird drinking water that came from melted snow because it would probably not taste the same as regular water we drink. I would probably do it because have melted snow as water is better thasn not having anything. My main concerns would be the water tasting nasy or weird and me thinking that the snow was dirty. No i do not think we would have water shortage in Cincinnati because experts say that the water shortage in beijing is cause by global warming and drought. Also Beijing has more of a population than Cincinnati does.

anonymous said...

I would feel over worked if i had to collect snow to melt for water. I would never want to collect snow for water. My main concern would be running out of water. I do not think we could have a water shortage in Cincinnati because we live right next to the Ohio River and we could just filter that water. Two high powered heaters on veichles will be used to melt some of the snow. Clean snow will also be dumped into dammed sections in three rivers that drift through the city. For years northern China has been battling a water shortage. Water consumption in Beijing, with a population of nearly 20 million and growing, rose to 3 billion cubic metres last year. The city was hit by its worst snowstorm, which lasted 20 hours with an average snowfall of nearly 11 millimetres.

It would be weird to collect snow and melt it inorder to be able to drink water and conserve it..I would be willing to do this if we needed it badly because I and my country would need water. My main concerns would be drinking dirty water ot bathing in dirty water. I dont think we would have a water shortagen in Cincinnati, because of the big full river we have and all of the lakes. Also, since there isnt many people I dont think it would happen, and a dought wouldnt likely happen either here in Cincinnati.

I agree with Anthony:
I would be worried if there would be parasites in the snow because i would not want to drink that water.

Sheridan,Megan said...

Sydney,
I would be scared about the snow being dirty and I would feel a little weird drinking it because it just wouldn't be the same.

Sean Laake said...

Sydney, ther is a reason why we do not have a shortage, is because we have a clean water source. Mainly the river, but in Beijing, its the opposite, they have no nearby water systems within a 100 mile radius. So problem 1 in China, imported water, they need to import water to have a safe drinking water source. They have the Yellow River, but it is so heavily contaminated, it is un useable. Problem 2, over grown population, Beijing is a heavily populated city, so heavly, that it is a fourth of Europes population

Park Deborah said...

@rachel
Thats what I think too. What if there are dieses or bacteria in snow they are drinking? Then there would be more deaths and people going to the hospital which i think is worse. why can't people from around the world just donate water? Like a fundraiser or something

Madison Schnell said...

Sydney I agree with you, and probably because we have so many water souces, like the river, and all of the lakes we have could help keep the water level high and enough for us.

oleary stephanie said...

i agree with sean and how they blame it on global warming

Anonymous said...

I would feel poor. Yes I would do it and store te water for later. My main concerns would be how dirty would the snow be. yes it is possible for us to have a water shorttage but i dont think we would because in cincinnati there are not as many people in cincinnati than in Beijing.

Sheridan,Megan said...

Deborah,
I never thought of that before. Like how they get water when it doesn't snow. I was also thinking about it harming humans with the snow being dirty.

I agree with you. I would be concerned about parasites being in the snow. Would the parasites be collected before the process of melting snow?
I would still be worried if they puified the snow somehow but I would still be very careful about drinking the melted snow.

Wall, Alexandra said...

It would be extremely odd if we used melted snow for water, but very resourceful at the same time. Although it would be weird, I guess I would still do it. I think I would be worried about something being in my water, like dirt or dog pee. I don't thik that there could be a water shortage in CIncinnati. Although anything is possible I would think that there is a very low chance. We also don't have s many people as Beijing or as bad of pollution as they do, to make the global warming.

Madison Schnell said...

Does everybody have to collect snow in Beijing? Or does only water companies?
I think whoever collects snow in Beijing that is not asked to or does not have to, should get something, like money, or a small treat because the snow adds up and it could be saving a whole country.

Two vehicles with highpowered heaters capable of processing around 100 cubic meters (3,500 cubic feet)Water consumption in Beijing, with a population of nearly 20 million and growing, rose to 3.55 billion cubic metres last year, compared with its water supply of 2.18 billion and i think they are really smart to be using the ice and snow for water

Wall, Alexandra said...

Sydney, I agree with yourpost, and I would also be afraid of dirt being in my water.... that would be so weird

batmanstake said...

if i didnt have much water to live on then i would be open to drink melted snow. but if i wasn't forced to then i don't think i would because melting snow with car heaters sounds a little sick, but maybe it's not so sick. since beijing is full of a lot of people, global warming must have really affected them. i think it's crazy to have a snowstorm that lasts 20 hours.

Wall, Alexandra said...

Madison, I never thought about bathing in dirty water, that would be disgusting! What would the point of taking a shower even be?

If people would start caring about global warming then mabey there could be a diference in our water but i dont know.

Jordan,M,Malsbary said...

I would feel normal useing melted snow as water as long as it isnt yellow or any other color. yes we could have a water shortage all that would need to happen is that the ohio river would need to get to poluded to were if you went swimming in it you would come back out with 2 extra heads.

Ryan, Marissa said...

It would be really different to use snow as water storage but I think I would be ok with it. I would sort of be mad being a kid because that takes the snow for them to play in but if they need water that bad, they would just have to adjust. I'm not sure water would taste the same either because as humans, we taste impurities in water easily. If you've ever eaten snow on a snow day, you know it doesn't taste the same as our tap water. So I don't think I would be too happy with it but if we were that desperate for water, I would get over it. I don't think we'll be doing that in Cincinnati though, because one of the main reasons they needed a water storage is because of their large popuation and here in Cincinnati, we don't have nearly as many people.

Abby Bacher said...

I can't believe that Beijing has to melt snow into water. Well, I guess they have no other choice besides dying of thirst, but we could bring water over to them since e have a large amount of it. I don't think that Cincinnati would die out because of water shortage because Beijing is only like this from all the people that live there, and Global Warming. :3

I would not like to use melted snow as water. It could be dirty and not safe. I would not like to gather the snow, but I would if neccasary for survival. I doubt that Cincinnati could have a water shortage due to amount of people, but drought and damming rivers could be a problem.

If we had to collect snow and melt it for water, first I would think: that's weird. I think I would be willing to do this. The only thig is, I would be kind of worried about the content of the water. Like is it safe to drink? Are the things they use to melt it safe? Could we get sick from this? I don't really think we would have a water shortage in Cincinnati. Cincinnati is so small compared to Beijing, who has like millions of people living there. China is over populated, unlike the United States, so I don't think we would have that problem. They say that their water shortage is caused by global warming. I don't think it is. They could just be having a dry season or something.

I would feel confused and upset that we would have to go that far to have or conserve water. I would only be willing to do this if we had to take drastic measures. Other than that I don't think that we (in Cincinnati) would have a sortage of water.

NO- i do not think we will have one in cincinnati. WE have had droughts before over summer. But we have other ways of getting water besides snow, i think.
Also there are billions in Beijing and nowhere near that many people here!

Xavier Frisch said...

If I had to collect and melt snow to get some water, I wouldnt mind too much. I would be willing to do this because it IS better than dying of dehydration. Well, my main concern is that even though it IS a good idea, snow turns to water under heat, and water evaporates under heat, which means you will get less water than the snow you melt. It is a possibility but I doubt it will happen, because we are right near a river and we have systems for cleansing and purifying water.

Collecting and melting snow to get water is a little weird. Its a smart idea but its just a little odd. I guess if we were in need of water then yeah I would be willing to do this plan but we dont really need it. I would be concerned about where they are getting the "clean" snow, and how do they know its clean? I would be worried about the snow being dirty. We really dont need a water storage, people in China are demanding it because of their global warming and drought issuses. We dont really have anyone demanid or complaining about the water storage mostly because we dnt have an of those issues.

I was wondering what would happan if it didntsnow too, or where they would put the extra water. Wold they build a water tower?

I totaally agree withyou Anthony. I think that germs could be a problem. Espicially a parasite epidemic. That is the last thing we need if we are melting snow for water! I would only hope they purified it very well in this situation.

Dickerson,Daniel said...

I think that melting snow would be an absolute last resort of desperation for Cincinnati. In the U.S.A, places with numbers of surplus water would be willing to share or forced to share if it were just a few cities. If it were the whole country, I think it would be everyman for himself and eventuall, marshal law would kick in.

i would like conserving snow to make water but then i wouldnt because there is bad snow and there is good snow.i guess i would be willing to do this. will i get sick from some of the snow. is the snow safe or not.i think we could and i think we couldnt. i think we could because if all of the rivers and lakes around cincinnati, and i think we couldnt because we dont like near any major oceans

I think it would be akward using melted snow for water.I would be willing to do this so I do not get dehydrated. My main concerns would be scared if the snow was dirty or had chemicals in there like salt.No I do not think we could have a shortage, because in Beijing they said it was due to global warming, also Beijing has alot of people living there and we do not have as many people living here.

I agree with sydney it would be a little weird, but it would pay off in the end. You wouldn't want to go without water for a long time.

I agree with Sydney Kilgore. But if the snow gets dirty we can find something to purify the snow unfortunatly Bejing does not have that technology.

i also think there could be a water shortage in ohio because if it is very cold outside our pipes might freeze then we would be screwed until the pipes thaw in spring.

In Beijing and in a lot of places in Asia they have to melt snow and ice for drinking water because of global warming. They have to put snow in many rivers because of irrigation and the water levels. For a long time China has been battling water shortages because of global warming. There has been a drout for a long time.

to use melted snow instead of water would be really weird. but isn't it just the same thing? can't they just get water from a river somewhere? what happens if it doesn't snow?plus, what would they do during warmer months when there is no snow. i might be willing to do this, but only if they cleaned it really well, otherwise that would be nasty. i don't think that cincinnati would have a really bad water shortage like beijing. i think this because beijing got one because of all the people that live there, global warming, and drought.i mean there's about 20 million people in beijing. that's a lot of people that want water.
it said on january 3rd last year that had their worst snow storm since 1951. i geuss with that much snow they might be okay with the whole useing snow as water thing. but i'm stil not sure about using it i think it would be too dirty. i know i said that i would use the melted snow only if they cleaned it super well but even then i don't think i would use it.

If I had to collect and melt snow for water, I would feel EXTREMELY weird... I mean, just imagine...having to collect snow to have water. I guess I would be willing to do this. I would want water. It would definately be better to have some rather than none. How are they going to melt the snow? Will they filter it or not? I think Bejing is a pretty dirty city, so what if there would be some sort of disease? That would be pretty dangerous. A lot of people could die, they have a huge population. I don't think we could have a water shortage in Cincinnati because number one we are right next to a river, number two Bejing has a very big population which, more people would have a demand for water and we don't have that big of a population, number three it says the little water supplies in Bejing was caused by drought and global warming.

If we had to collect and melt snow to conserve water in Cincinnati, I would be a little scared that the snow might be dirty. If snow is on the ground, I don't really jump at the chance to drink it. But if it were the only other option besides dying of thirst and suffering from drought, I would be willing to drink it as long as it was purified. I don't want to drink water that could make me sick. I don't think we'll be having a water shortage in Cincinnati anytime soon because we don't have nearly as many people here than in Beijing. We also have the Ohio River as an abundant water source. Although, I don't think global warming had much to do with the water shortage. There are around 20 million people in Beijing that use water for drinking, watering crops, bathing... Think about it- even washing your hands uses a considerable amount of water. Think about how much water you use in one day and multiply it by 20 million. That's roughly the amount of water usage that is happening in Beijing.
