Earth's Interior and Continental Drift

What are the three layers of the earth?  What is the lithosphere?  What is the difference between oceanic and continental crust? What is the core made of and how hot is it?  What is the mantle?  What is magma?  Click on the link below to answer these questions and tell why scientist might study earth's interior

Earth's Interior
Who first came up with the concept of Continental Drift?  What is the name of the super continent that existed over 1 million years ago?  What are convection currents and what do they have to do with Continental Drift and Plate movement?  How does convection currents cause movement in the mantle?  What is subduction?  What might crustal movements cause?

The three layers of the earth are first its the crust, then the mantel and the center is the core. The lithosphere are hard slabs divided into the oceanic and continenal crust. The difference between the oceanic and continenal crust is that the oceanic crust is thin and the continental crust is thick. Also the oceanic crust is beneath the sea and the continenal crust is land above the sea. The core is made of denser material like iron, and it is about 3000 degrees C. The mantel is the area between the core and the crust and it is mostly solid rock. Magma is a layer of molten rock near the core.
A German scientist named Alfred Wegener first came up with the idea of Continental Drift. The super continent that existed over 1 million years ago is Pangaea. convection currents are movements in the mantel causing the land to be able to move. They have to do with Contenintal Drift and Plate Techtonics by they can make landmasses move and the earth crust and plates move. Convection currents cause movement in the earths mantel by when the magma gets hotter it expands and rises. Subduction is when magma sinks and the plates are dragged toward eachother. Crustal movements may cause earthquakes.

The three layers of the earth are the cors, the mantle and the crust. The crust is the outside layer of the earth, like the skin of an apple. The mantle is the middle layer, like the pulp of an apple. Lastly, the core is named exactly like an apple core, it is the very inside layer of the earth. The lithosphere is another name for the crust of the eartth, it is divided into oceanic and continental crusts. Oceanic is the part of the earth that is ocean or water, then the continental is the part that is land. The core is the center of the Earht, it is partly made of solids, and the temperatures are really hot, as high as 3000 degrees celcius. The mantle is mostly made of rocks. The mantle is te layer of earth inbetween the crust and core, it also has a small layer of magma that is closest to the core. Magma is molten rock that can be found in the mantle of the Earth, it is like lava from a volcano.

Alfred Wegener came up with the concept of continental drift. Pangaea is the super continent that excisted almost 1 million years ago. Convection currents make the plates move, this is called plate movement . Convection currents is basically the movement of the continents which is called continetial drift. Convection current moves the mantal when the water gets hotter and expands, then it rises to the surface of the Earth. Subduction is when the magma sinks and goes away, then the plates are moved towards eachother. Crustal movements are the cause of earhtquakes.

With the Earth there are three different layers like a fruit. The outside layer is called the crust then moving in you find the mantel then the core. The lithosphere are slabs on the earths surface that are created when the crust[surface] of the earth is pushed together. The core of the earth is 3000 degrees Celsius which gives so much heat that the heat is shot up to the air vent thus creating an active volcano. Alfers Wegner was the first to discover continental drift. The name of the large land mass 1 millin years ago was called the Pangea. The thing that happend was that over tons of years the land mass brock apart by earthquaks and erosion and many other things. The reason the mantal moves is because it boils the water makeing it change. Sometimes crustal movements cause many natual desasters earthquaks sunamies etc...

The first person to come up with the idea of continental drift was a German scientist named Alfred Wegener. He named the massive amount of land that was around about 1 million years ago pangea which means "all land".
Convection currents is the movement or the drift of the plates. Convection currents are simular to continental drift by moving the plates, the convecton current works by the magma near the core rises and expands. The magma that has spread out beneath the Earth's plates then causeing them to drift away from one another. The plates spread out and then move apart causing the process of ocean floors to start spreading. Subducion is when the magma sinks and begins to move the plates toward each other. Convection currents in the mantel causes plates to move, this is what crustal mocements may cause they could also cause things like earthquakes.

The three layers of the earth are the crust, the mantle, and the core. The lithosphere is a fancy name for the crust but it forms from the hardening mantle or molten rock. The difference is that the continental crust is not under water, but the oceanic crust is. The earths core is mostly iron but the temperature is about 3000 degrees fahrenheit. The german scientist Alford Wagener thought that pangea was seperated by the movement of the earth's crust rather than a huge explosion. Convection currents are what their name is, and they are moving around in the mantle. The currents of magma come up through the crust(mostly under water) and pile up, but the new magma that is coming up forces the crust apart also moving the continents. The rocks heat up and start to move and then find their way out of the mantle and onto the crust.

It is when cold magma sinks to the ocean floor and the plates are dragged together. Crust movements cause earthquakes, title waves, and many more.

Sydney is right the continetal crust is thicker than the oceanic crust which makes it a lot easier for the magma to break through the crust in the ocean.

Pangea is the super continent that exsisted over 1 million years ago. The convection currents act like conveyer belts moving heat from the earths interior upward and cold material downward in a big loop. Subduction is the process of the plates moving tword and away each other. Crustal plate movement might cause pressure in the earths core.

I agree with Anthony because the plates do move in patterns.

The three layers of earth are mantle, core, crust. The difference between oceanic and continental crust is that the oceanic is very thin and the continental crust is very thick. The core is made up of denser materials like, iron and is 3000 C.The mantle is solid rock but there is also a layer of molton rock, called magma. This magma can get up to 2000 degrees celcius.

Alfred Wagner is the one that came up wit this idea of conttinental drift. The super that exsisted over 1 million years ago which is called Pangaea.Convection currents make the plates move and it involves the continental movement by the movement of the currents is very similar b/c the movement of the continents. Covection current moves the mantel by the water getting hotter and expanding and makes it rise to the surface.Subduction is when the magma sinks and the plates collide together.Crustal movement could cause an earthquake.
