Venus in the Sky

View Venus from your own front yard

http://earthsky.org/tonight/venus-brightest-for-2010-around-september-19

Venus is known as the "Morning Star" because this planet often looks like a bright "star" in the morning star.  See if you can locate it in the sky.

Look for Jupiter at the end of September. It will be the closest to Earth in 30 by Sept 30. It can be seen along the eastern horizon at sunset rising higher through the night until it is high over head at mid-night. I know that is well past your bed time. Well if the truth be told that is well past my bed time too

yea i`ve heard about venus and how it is very hot. I couldnt find it but i found the moon duhh. yea the reason it looks as bright as a star is because it basicly is its a huge ball of lava basiclly

I did locate Venus with my telescope on Saturday for a badge for my Boy Scout Troop. But Venus is also called earths sister because they are so close in size. But it cannot be inhabited YET.Its atphmosphere is a lander's nightmare, when entering, the ship will crush and will be destroyed along with its crew and also its surface is covered with a poisionous sulfur gas.

anonymous said...

sweet i want to go home and see it now, and just putting it out there what if earth had more then 1 moon? what would you think

I think it's really cool because Iv'e never really thought about anything other than earth and the sun. I know all the planets but from what I learned from the video I'll never think of space and other planets like I used too again. I also think it's really cool that we can see Venus from all the way down here.

Sheridan,Megan said...

Seasn I never knew that venus was called Earth's sister. That's so cool.

Sean Laake said...

Actually Ethan scientists belive that the earth had two moons. But eventually they formed into one big moon either that or the rogue planet Orpheus crashed into the earth after it condensed and then Orpheus's iron core and everything else gone to the moon which explains how on the moon there is no Iron core, Mars is covered with iron, thats why its red, its a total RUST bucket there.

I saw venus last night, it was pretty cool. Well...it almost looked like a star to me, but my dad clarified that it was venus. Venus was bigger than the stars, but not by much. It was big enough to be noticable. In 2020, my dad says that we could see venus again, the same distance and everything. They say it wont get any closer to the earth, so each year it'll be the same.

McGinnis,Ben said...

i would like to see venus from my back yard and i would have liked to see the shadow it was talking about in the link. i never knew we had 95 moons i thought we had around 30 moons. space is so interesting and has lots of mysterys that are waiting to be solved.
