Igneous rocks come from magma or lava. There are three main types of igneous rocks, intrusive, extrusive, and plutonic: rocks that form in very deep areas of the Earth's mantle. You can find them nearly everywhere but mainly around volcanoes. Some examples are Basalt, Granite, and Pumice.

Igneous is latin for "fire", it mainly comes from lava and magma from volcanoes. What happens is the volcano errupts and sends lava that runs down the side of the mt. and over time it cooles down either slowly or quickly. When it is cooled slowly it is called intrusive which can make crystal ex., quartz. When it cooles quickly it is called extrusive example is basalt.
