Monarch Metamorphisis

Julie Zickefoose is naturalist located in southwestern Ohio.  She has caught a Monarch caterpillar making his chrysalis and then becoming a beautiful butterfly.  Watch this event, read, the article and tell me what you think. This is amazing

The monarch butterfly is very beautiful and to me the prosses is amazing. I would love to catch one and watch the cycle. If I was to see one part of the cycle it would be watching the butterfly break out of the cocoon and spread its wing's to the wind and fly away.

Dear Abby, did you know that there's a butterfly kit you can get were they give you baby catapilers and you get to see them go through the the cycle. i saw it on T.V.

They butterfly was cool but i can never find monarch butterflys. All I find are either the moth butterflys or the wood catiplilars but it was cool.

I agree with Cade it would be awsome to see The monarch butterfly breaking from its cacoon then flying away.

The monarch butterfly is very beautiful and the process is very long but in the end its totally worth it. If I was able to watch a process of the monarch butterfly it would be the part where the butterfly came out of the cocoon and flew away.My sister she loves butterflies and she always cathches them and one time she caught a monarch butterfly and the wings were absolulelty colorful and breath taking.

Uhm... how do the butterfly's wings grow that fast? And how does the cacoon thurns see through at the end, right before the butterfly comes out? Otherwise that video was really cool! I think it is amazing how butterflys can do that, we should have a butterfly in clas???????????? Mrs. Martz?????????????

it would be amazing to see something that was non-moving and looked lifeless come alive right in front of you

To Cade and Tony:I agree with you that if we were ever able to watch part of the process of when the buttrerfly is escaping from the cocoon and fly away would be the best.I said that because just watching the video from where the butterfly came out of the cocoon was beautiful

I think the process of the monarch butterfly is so cool. The butterfly is beautiful. They go through a really long but neat process. How do their wings grow that fast? If i were to see any part in the process of the caterpillar becoming a butterfly it would be to see it come out of the cacoon and fly away. I think that would be really neat.

Rachel,
You are so lucky that your sister caught one, I wish I could see one up close.

Alexandra,
I was wondering the same thing about how the wings grow that fast! I could not believe it. I think we should have one in class too! Thats a great idea.

WOW! That is amazing. I never really knew the whole process of how the caterpillar tunrs into a butterfly, but now that I've seeen it, it's really cool! I didn't know the cacoon turns into a pretty silver color. I really liked the video, and it was really interesting.

I think this video was amazing. I also thought that the speed of the wings growing was unbelieveable. It was really cool being able to watch the proccess in a video.
After it came out of the cocoon I think it got to the most beautiful step in the overall process. I was lucky enough to watch the process in my home but I missed it come out of the cocoon...which I didn't like at all!

The monarch butterfly is amazing just hatching. The monarch butterfly is a very rare creature I think. You do not see them every day but sometimes. The monarch butterfly reminds me of a mexican butterfly for its colors and patterns. The marnarch butterfly is a lot more rare than a tiger swallowtail.

KAM said...

I agree with Megan...I think that being able to see the butterfly break away from the cocoon and fly away would be the best part...only because that is the only part of the process that missed when when my family and I had one and also I think it would be very neat, beautiful, and exciting!

i agree with cade i think it would be awesome to catch a caterpillar and watch that proccess of the butterfly coming out of the cacoon

Whoa! That is one of the weirdest things I've EVER seen! But it was so cool! When it came out of it's crysalis, it was amazing to watch as it came out and it's wings spread and you could see them growing bigger! That was so cool! And the monarch butterfly is beautiful! That was a very interesting thing to watch and read about and it really makes you think about how beautiful nature really is.

That was amazing, I think monarch butterfly's are beautful. I remember when I was little girl, I saw a cacoon that was already ripped open,I was so amazed, it was sooooo awesome !
And Alexandra, I think we should have a butterfly in class too ! That would be soo cool to watch the cycle change day by day!

i am so glad we found it and i almost steppped on it.
i think its mean when someone says they stepped on a butterfly cause i almost never see one anymore

Ryan, Marissa said...

I agree with you Rachel! The part of the process i would be most interested in seeing is when the Monarch butterfly bursts out of it's crysalis and spreads it's wings for the first time. It would be beautiful to see!

Xavier Frisch said...

I would really like to see the caterpillar spin its cacoon or cristalis (i have no clue how to spell ?cristalis? ). I also lik how at the end they show you how the "cacoon" is really clear. :D

freel,amanda said...

That was soooo neat, how it makes it's cacoon and comes out of it later. Anyway, one time I caught a caterpiller, and a butterfly and put them on my sisters' heads and they have never caught or touched or liked them ever again. Kind of funny isn't it!!!!!!

Wow that video was... interesting.... Was that all pictures? I thought the whole caterpillar thing was kind of gross. I hardly ever see Monarchs. When I do see them, I see them at parks and stuff.

Kylie Hayes said...

That is SO cool! I noticed that at the end it kinda expanded and it looked lik it went from fat to skinney. I think we should have a butterfly as a pet too!

Bass,Zoey said...

i think that the process of the monarch is amazing. but i thnk that there are alot of prettier butterflies out there.

That video was amazing to watch I always want to see what happens but it is to slow and I dont know where I can see that at

Jenn Davis said...

I think that it is really cool how when it goes into its chrysalis, its loses a layer from when it was a caterpillar. Also when it breaks out, I think that it is awesome how it's wings have to grow to get to their full length and they arn't already that size.

Jenn Davis said...

@ Katy Nortman
I remamber that butterfly. It is hard to imagine that the butterfly we found did the same thing.

Kamilah Williams said...

wow that butterfly was beautiful i never knew that i would see the growth of a caterpillar

A, Owen said...

I think that butterflies look so cool, and what is even cooler is that she was able to film the metamorphisis. Every now and then in the spring we would go to the butterfly show at Eden Park and see a large variety of butterflies from all over the world. Amazing!

Gillian said...

I wish I could see a monarch butterfly in person. I have never seen a catipillar turn into a butterfly or a butterfly come out of a cocoon. But I imagine it would be pretty cool. I agree with Abby, a rainbow catipiller would be awesome and what if there was such thing as a mood butterfly that changed colors with the temperature.

Fairbanks,Joey said...

I agree with Cade, that would be remarcable to see the cycle of the butterfly. Especaly when the butterfly spreads it's wings, and fly away.
